There are less than 100 Jews left today in Syria, the remnant of a once great community that has existed since the time of King David. In The Shadows calls attention to the horrifying plight of that captive population from 1948, when the creation of the state of Israel caused the doors of Syria to slam shut on their Jews, to 1992 when this program was made. Using never before seen documentary footage, and through the use of interviews, film maker Cayle Chernin depicts the precarious position that the Jews endured in Syria. In The Shadows offers viewers a glimpse into what it meant to be Jewish in Syria and what those who managed to leave had to endure along the way.
